Lifestyle Session with The Senters

This time a week ago I was just entering active labor so after a week of absolute pure baby bliss I’m going to slowly start blogging again ❤

I first met Nathan earlier this year when he contacted me about doing some small business work for KIN Movement, a new gym he co-founded.  After getting to know both him and his business partner Jessie I asked them if I could host my LOVE YO BODY shoot at their gym  Their philosophy embodied everything I was looking to capture, a small boutique gym that is centered around community as well as embracing your body as a whole; strengthening it both physiologically and psychologically through a holistic approach, if you’re in the area I highly recommend you check them out!

For as much as I loved Nathan’s gym though, his family was amazing.  From the moment I walked through the front door the warmth and love and character permeated the air.  It was absolute perfection.  As we enter these winter months I am open to booking some more lifestyle sessions so as you glance through these images dream about what your session might look like!! ❤ View More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senterView More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/senter

with this post!  2016-03-10_0001Angie and Derrick are great friends I have known for some time now.  They homeschool and are also ‘rehabing’ their beautiful older home in Milan.  As their kiddos are getting older they decided some pictures of what a ‘typical’ school day is would be treasured so they can look back one day and ‘remember when’… 2016-03-10_0002They have been working on their kitchen the last year and I can honestly say it is MY happy place so I sure hope they are pleased with it!  And I may just permanently take up residence at their island with some coffee, it is so peaceful! 2016-03-10_0003 2016-03-10_0004We started the session with some ideas written down of what their day typically looked like so if the shoot didn’t progress ‘naturally’ we would have some ideas to fall back on… but we didn’t need any of them.  2016-03-10_0005Love this ‘escape the ordinary’ note pad 🙂 2016-03-10_0006Honestly, this kitchen! *drool*2016-03-10_0007This is where I stop talking because the images just speak louder than words ever could…2016-03-10_0008 2016-03-10_0009 2016-03-10_0010 2016-03-10_0011 2016-03-10_0012 2016-03-10_0013 2016-03-10_0014 2016-03-10_0015I may have a small obsession with little person feet ❤ 2016-03-10_0016 2016-03-10_0017She invited me to her tea party 🙂 2016-03-10_0018 2016-03-10_0019This is an example of a ‘natural’ posed picture.  I helped coach Anna who reluctantly agreed but this series is priceless! 2016-03-10_0020Next was a family project ❤ love this working together! 2016-03-10_0021 2016-03-10_0022So many hands together! ❤ 2016-03-10_0023Matching Painted Toes. 2016-03-10_0024 2016-03-10_0025Mama and Baby snuggles. 2016-03-10_0026 2016-03-10_0027 2016-03-10_0028 2016-03-10_0029 2016-03-10_0030 2016-03-10_0031The light streaming in their home is just gorgeous! 2016-03-10_0032Pitter Patter. 2016-03-10_0033 2016-03-10_0034More feet. 2016-03-10_0035 2016-03-10_0036 2016-03-10_0037Don’t you just want to cozy up and read by this window?2016-03-10_0038Sister smooshes. 2016-03-10_0039A daddy and his girls. 2016-03-10_0040May our kiddos never be too big for hugs ❤ 2016-03-10_0042  2016-03-10_0044This next series is to.die.for.2016-03-10_0045 2016-03-10_0046Those eyes ❤2016-03-10_0047This couple has been married for 15 years! Purely Life: Andersons

Growing up I was always super close to my cousins.  Both of my parents came from tight knit families and numerous kids which resulted in a lot of cousins 🙂  When I was elementary school aged one of my cousin’s family moved to Texas.  It was quite weird going from seeing them frequently to once a year but we always made up for lost time when we saw each other!  Our families would travel together (Grand Canyon/Rockies/Utah baby!) and they would drive the long trek north most every Christmas.  I had the grand pleasure of photographing two cousins’ weddings (in the same weekend!) when Lalo was about 10 months old in Texas and when baby Rowe was born Autumn came north for Christmas and stayed with a us a few days so I could love on the nugget!!  So when Rowe’s first birthday party was looming I was dying to go south to celebrate! Thankfully fates and generous people collided and Lalo, Eowyn and I were able to fly south with Grandma (or Gi-Gi as Lalo calls her!) to enjoy time with everyone.  It was absolutely amazing and I can only hope that someday it can be repeated!

All that to say I got to spend time with some of my fave people but I also got to do something I love.  Capturing people loving on each other *in their element*.  There was some posing but mostly it was just life.  Raw, unfiltered life.  Just typing that gives me goosebumps.  It was amazing and I cannot wait to do it again!  I am booking more lifestyle sessions now!  So get at me and book one because I just can’t get enough!

We will do some posed pictures for Holiday Cards or grandma (or your wall too!!) but we will mainly focus on capturing what a day in your life is.  The messy floors (or clean if you’re more awesome than me!)  the goopy hugs, the daddy’s coming home from work and the puppies and babes rolling around together.  Life.  Because that’s what you will think back on and wonder if you remember correctly, not 2015’s Christmas card photo sess.  View More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/texas View More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/texas View More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/texas View More: http://amandamaephotography.pass.us/texasThose smiles! Thank you so much for welcoming me (and my crew!) into your home and your lives!  I am so thankful that I got to be there for Rowe’s first birthday and to love on your nugget!  I cannot wait to take his picture and hug him again!! (and you too 😉 )

And just an FYI if you do book me for a lifestyle session you don’t have to house me and feed me 😉 that is just a family perk 🙂

11/52 Window Light: Seen Differently

Any photographer worth their weight in beans will of course tell you their love and passion for natural light.  Adding light is definitely a skill that is necessary to call oneself a professional but there is something so lovely and simple about natural light.

Personally I always look to use natural light and window light first when shooting indoors because frankly adding light takes physical effort (i.e. setting up light stands and putting my lights together 😉 ) but I also find most of my clients are much more *comfortable* with natural light.

But alas not all natural light is ‘perfect’ for an entire session.  For instance this photo is lit very naturally with the windows behind me (in front of Andrea and Chris) so that they are lit evenly with beautifully diffused light.  We really enjoyed recreating this fun shot from one of their past vacations.  2015-03-23_0004But this image in front of the fireplace  doesn’t lend itself to anything artistic.  Not a bad photo, not poorly lit… just not super interesting lighting wise and not something I would want to give my clients as a ‘finished’ project.  But instead of setting up my light stands yesterday I decided to try to use available light just differently! 2015-03-23_0005So I had Andrea and Chris move to the couch and took these images with windows in front of them at a 45 degree angle to give it a more interesting look and dimension.  2015-03-23_0002 2015-03-23_0003And then when I walked around in front of them I was able to capture this image

2015-03-23_0006 A nice bright image with more beautifully diffused light.  🙂

You can also use window light to take some detail shots to give a nice bright look and make diamonds look super sparkly 🙂 (or baby toes… or toddler smiles… 🙂 )

2015-03-23_0001So if you are ever feeling like your images are looking lit the same way over and over and over maybe try looking from a different angle.  Moving the subject closer to the window, further away or simply placing the light source in a different location! 🙂  It’s worth a shot! 🙂 😉 (pun intended! haha!

6/52

This has been a week of snow storms, fevers and a little bit of sunshine.  As a dessert creature I am trying to enjoy the beauty of winter but often it takes a bit of coercion.  One method that was worked really well recently is this little man petitioning snuggles to get warm.   2015-02-08_0002We still find him in our bed many (most… ok ALL) nights but he starts off in his room.  When he asks me to lay down with him to snuggle him I can’t help but say yes.  Some night in the future he won’t need me anymore to get warm but for now I will enjoy our snuggles.  And these toes.  I suppose they aren’t baby toes any more.  But they’ll always be baby toes in my heart 🙂   2015-02-08_0001
