As I slowly get back into blogging (slowly is one of the bigger understatements of the year!) This wedding is of particular importance to me. One Jenni and Dave are AWESOME. I mean check out this engagement session. In addition to their awesomeness I had the privilege of seeing one of my favorite couples at their wedding since they were referral! (referred couples are my favorite because I almost always get to reconnect with past couples!! seriously! Best part of my job!) And it was my first wedding back in the saddle after sweet E graced us with her presence (early!). Needless to say this wedding had a lot riding on it to be fantastic.
And then the rain happened.
So many couples worry about rain. Thankfully being in Michigan we very rarely have rain all day. Most weddings it rains part of the day but we can almost always sneak out for a few pictures. But this season, this season it rained from May until July.
ALL. THE. TIME.
As professionals we were fighting fight club style for ‘hidden’ gems where we could take couples and bridal parties for portraits. Jenni and Dave were rockstars though and you would not know that basically their entire plan was set into plan B mode. We rocked it and this will be forever one of my favorites.
We started at the Downtown Marriott in the Ren Cen. They had a beautiful room that over looked the city with windows to die for. *Swoon* The day was dreary but it made for some super cool pictures through these windows! Pro tip! When picking out a room to get ready in if they have a bridal suite or any suite really that has gorgeous windows it is worth the extra buck if you are having a photographer with you. We did our first look and gift exchange pictures in this room because it was so beautiful! Check out this light!! And this couple!!! ❤ Thankful the girls trusted me for this. At first they thought I was crazy (and I probably looked crazy as I was practically laying on the desk to get the shot) but it was worth the crazy! and this! check Jenni out! The wedding and reception were at Waterview Loft at the Detroit Port Authority Because it is a federal building it was a bit tricky to get everything loaded and unloaded but the view was spectacular!!! Windsor was right across the river and you could see the Ambassador bridge too! Had the weather cooperated we would have been on the river for appetizers and for portraits. But the rain looked just as beautiful! Their staff was amazing. Super organized and always helpful! These details were stunning! The ceremony was beautiful and on the lower level with the reception and dinner above.
Because we weren’t able to do many (any) pictures outside I talked Dave and Jenni into being adventurous with me in the rain. All of the ‘formal’ things were done on the timeline so if her dress got a teeny wet it wouldn’t be the hugest of deals. Thankfully she played along and Dave was an awesome gentleman making sure she got most of the umbrella 🙂 But it was SO worth it. Check out these shots! Even with a little (ok a LOT) of rain we can still have fun! One of the pictures they both wanted were sunset pictures with the Ambassador Bridge. That was not in the cards but we still had fun and got some cool pictures! Dancing and drinks were where the ceremony was and the team at Waterview Lofts did an extraordinary job transforming the rooms. If there is one thing I learned from shooting two weddings with the New Family, if you are ever in need of a portable party or people to get a party started, call them up! I am pretty sure my face was sore from smiling and my abs got a work out from laughing so much! Thank you guys for such an unforgettable day! I know we were all bummed it was so soggy but you rocked it!!!! I hope you love your pictures as much as I do! 🙂 ❤
run often, smile more!
