Niki and Matt 5.18.13

Niki and Matt found me early this year and even though we didn’t have time to squeeze in an engagement shoot we immediately connected on their big day!

Their bridal party was so much fun and Niki had every last detail planned down from a kids table with activities to amazingly fun mad libs for the adults at the reception!  We were able to get some great shots in the church, then head over to the beautiful Island Park and finished up at Avis Farms where they met!

The reception at Weber’s Inn was fantastic as usual!  We had a photobooth set up and an amazing DJ who kept the dance floor full.  I am so thankful for such a fantastic wedding to start up this great season of 2013!   Thanks you guys!!

Five Years.

I cannot believe it has been five years.  Five years ago I was getting my hair done, chatting with friends and anticipating walking down the aisle to my love.  I would not have changed a single thing.  As I sit here editing last weeks wedding, I have a puppy (who was there on wedding day!!!) beside me and a little bundle of energy watching Go Diego Go! and a NEW puppy!

Life is beautiful. Life is hard. Life is GREAT.  I am so blessed.  I am so thankful.

I am so thankful and I am so blessed to be with so many couples to capture their big day as they begin their journey as husband wife.  Here are some of the beautiful images taken by Sarah Lugo five short years ago!

Your Race.

“let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us”

Regardless of your religious affiliation these are just good words to live by.  Found in the Bible Hebrews 12:1b it has become my daily mantra.

Throw off everything that hinders and entangles.  Run with perseverance the race marked out for you.

Read that again.

The birth of social media has been both a blessing and a curse.  It can be used for some many good things but it can also be a trap that ensnares us. It becomes a time suck, a soapbox, a gossip generator and an isolator and my biggest trap: a vehicle of comparison.

A wise woman once told me to remember that people’s blogs, facebooks, twitters, etc are only snap shots of their life that they want you to see, the top ‘portfolio’ of their life if you will.  With this ugly comparison monster it is so easy to view your life as less than adequate or even mark it as a failure.

As of late I am in the process of ‘unplugging’.  I took facebook off of my phone, I am enforcing ‘office hours’ and I am intentionally participating in my life with  face time (no, not the Iphone app, real face time 🙂 )

At first it was almost a painful realization that life had been happening around me without my noticing but worse was almost feeling lost without constant social media intervention.  I am purposefully working on deciphering what ‘my race’ is without the constant interference and opinions of media influence.  And I am plodding onward with the direct support of those who take the time to invest in me and I in them.

In this new age I challenge you to really look at life.  Are you reacting to the life happening around you or are you living your life?

Being a mom of a little one my biggest fear is that I will somehow wake up and realize mine and my son’s life will have raced past me while my face was stuck to a computer screen.

So make some goals, stick to them, reevaluate what is important you and run after it with all that you’ve got and do not let anything get in your way.

This is your life after all.  Own it.

spring.

Spring has officially sprung in Michigan and I am so incredibly thankful.  It has been a long winter and to say I am happy to see the sun and buds is a huge understatement.

I was lucky to be able to attend the first Ann Arbor Share Society  last night hosted at Zingerman’s Events on Fourth an amazing venue with fantastic speakers (and hosts!)  But that is another post for another time!!!
One of the discussions last night was to keep the art alive in your work as well as your soul.  I am 100% guilty of falling into the trap of shooting simply for pay and forgetting about feeding my artist’s soul.  Mulling over everything this morning during my run I ran through a beautiful flowered arch that just bloomed and I was instantly inspired.  Thankfully I have an amazing friend who was more than willing to supply her gorgeous daughter complete with ballet uniforms for my artistic inspiration!  THANK YOU!!!!

What initially drew me to this shoot was the AMAZING color.  But as the shoot progressed it was more about the innocence and purity of her spirit (which matches my brand, pure photography, purely you!… yea!) but I am torn- the black and whites are beautiful but the color in this shoot is AMAZING… so I leave you with some of each!
